Sounds like a readline problem. Do you have another copy of readline  
in /usr/local installed by some other process, or by you? Move it out  
of the way, then upgrade MacPorts, then put it back, if you need it,  
or get rid of it altogether if you don't because it's only going to  
cause problems again down the line.
