Error installing librsvg, xrender

I am trying to install librsvg and it seems to fail when trying to  
install xrender. I have managed to install this with no problems on  
my iMac G5, but on my intel MacBook it fails with the following error.


checking for X_CFLAGS...
checking for X_LIBS...
checking for X... no
configure: error: X is required, but it was either disabled or not  
found.

Error: The following dependencies failed to build: libgsf gnome-vfs  
gconf gtk2 pango Xft2 xrender cairo howl neon openssl
Error: Status 1 encountered during processing.
