recurring issues with gdk-pixbuf version?

So digging into this, I find that cups-headers actually does have  
some dependents:

libgnomeprintui -> libgnomeprint -> libgnomecups -> cups-headers

and libgnomeprintui is required by all these:

- --->  Unable to uninstall libgnomeprintui 2.12.1_0, the following  
ports depend on it:
- --->    goffice
- --->    gnumeric
- --->    gal
- --->    gnucash

I am trying gtk2 now after forcibly removing cups-headers. If it  
works I can then reinstall cups-headers if needed and see what happens.

This works. So I see there is a thread about testing for OS version:  
I suspect that is the way to go.
