Cannot install Bison

Tried to install Bison, for whatever reason it wont install...see  
below.  Any help?

Macintosh:~ jswelch$ sudo port clean
Can't map the URL 'file://.' to a port description file ("Could not  
find Portfile in /Users/jswelch").
Please verify that the directory and portfile syntax are correct.
