gnome-vfs fails to build on 10.3.9

On January 23, Brett Warden wrote of a patch that might allow
gnome-vfs to be built on Mac OS 10.3.9.

Is there any news on this patch? Will it be added? I am having the
same problem compiling gnome-vfs on darwin_7 (10.3.9). If it is not
going to be fixed soon, I would love to have instructions on how to
fix it, if anyone is willing to do so.
