No, if it pointed to itself it would say "/opt/local/lib/libgtk- 
x11-2.0.dylib -> libgtk-x11-2.0.dylib"

Are you sure there's nothing after the -> ? Nothing continued on the  
second line for example? I've never seen a symlink that pointed to  
nothing. I don't even know how to create such a thing.

That's peculiar.

By all means, reinstall it, if you know what port provides it.  
Perhaps the gtk2 port provides it. I'm not sure because I don't have  
any libgtk-x11-2.0.dylib and I don't use gtk.
