Have you installed MacPorts in /usr/local instead of /opt/local?  If  
yes, this is most likely the problem (see, for example, <http:// 
permalink.gmane.org/gmane.os.opendarwin.darwinports/15586>).

Otherwise, do you have extra X11 stuff under /usr/local?
