openssh configuration, sshd {Scanned}

Hey gang,

I'm configuring openssh downloaded from macports.

Had to change port from 2222 in /opt/local/etc/ssh/sshd_config to 22 to 
get a login prompt.

Now login won't accept my password?  I'm using the same one as I use on 
mac.....is their
some more configuration neccasary?

Tried a bunch of different auth settingings in sshd_config.....no joy.
