using libs installed with macports to build a tarball

But I don't know where to set it. 'LIBRARY_PATH=$LIBRARY_PATH:/opt/ 
local/lib ./configure'    gives me the same error, and LIBRARY_PATH is  
not set at all anyway (no /usr/local/lib or /usr/lib)
