So many packages installed for gimp - amazed

I understand that gimp has dependencies but I am amazed at how many  
packages are being installed.  It is not just how slow my iBook G4  
is, but all of the following have been installed in response to my  
install of gimp (run from a different Terminal window while the port  
install continues):
