esound

I'm having trouble installing esound on my Powerbook (last generation 
G4), OS X 10.4.10

Here's the output:

--->  Building esound with target all

Error: Status 1 encountered during processing.

Any help would be appreciated.  Ports like the Gimp depend on esound.
