Copying MacPorts from Tiger to Leopard (or upgrading from Tiger to  
Leopard and keeping your MacPorts installation) is problematic  
because many ports will have built with the auto-selected "darwin_8"  
variant, which is now not appropriate on Leopard. Any such ports that  
you have should be forcibly uninstalled (sudo port -f uninstall foo)  
and reinstalled (sudo port install foo) so that they pick up the  
darwin_9 variant, if necessary.

That may not be related to your iterm issue, however. I'm not sure.
