Hello,
	The "because gcc43 is installed in opt/local/bin, it is the first in  
line problem"   I deactivated gcc43 because gcc_select is already  
pointing to gcc 4.0.1; but, was being over ridden by PATH.  MacPorts  
apparently does not use gcc_select; but, PATH instead.
