One other question:

why not use the one Apple provides:

$ locate libz.dylib
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.3.9.sdk/usr/lib/libz.dylib
/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk/usr/lib/libz.dylib
/usr/lib/libz.dylib
