That's fairly old. But as long as it's @5.2.9_2, it should work as described. (@5.2.9_1 and earlier had the php.ini file in /opt/local/etc, not /opt/local/etc/php5. This changed in r50173.)

Yes, install the php52 port. You'll get PHP 5.2.11.
