Dbus will not restart after a crash

Dbus, which is used by gimp, gives this error after a system crash:

Apr 21 16:49:32 Kleiman-ibook org.freedesktop.dbus-system[150]: Failed  
to start message bus: The pid file "/opt/local/var/run/dbus/pid"  
exists, if the message bus is not running, remove this file

The test being performed doesn't make sense when launchd is running  
dbus; that launchd wants to start it up means that it isn't running.

More to the point, this is something that needs to be cleaned up at  
system reboot, and nothing is provided to do so.
