py26-wxpython trouble (even without pgAdmin3)

The downstream python application that I need (which uses wxWidgets) opens in the X11 environment. I was thinking / hoping it might open more "natively" under Mac OS. The variant defaults to gtk (vs carbon) but I don't grasp their relation to X11.

are listed the following, whereas the portfile offers only gtk and carbon. Do I uninstall and reinstall with carbon?
