I understand that you're running Snow Leopard, but again, Snow Leopard can be 32-bit or 64-bit depending on the computer. The output of "uname -a" that you showed me doesn't tell us whether your Mac is running 32-bit or 64-bit code. (I get the same output on my computer, modulo the hostname, and my computer is a 64-bit MacBookPro3,1.)

Can you show the output of

sysctl hw.cpu64bit_capable
