Kile (and other KDE4 apps) not working

Hi all, 

I installed Kile-devel (2.1b4) on Snow Leopard,  but neither Kile nor the other apps that get installed along with it (kruler, okular, gwenview) will run in GUI mode. Command-line execution to get program versions etc. works.

I did the recommended operations,  i.e.,  ran chown to make sure I'm the owner of Library/Preferences/KDE and its subfolders,  and I started the dbus-daemon (1.2.24 - most recent release on MacPorts) in session mode under my user name and via sudo in system daemon mode. 

Library path (DYLD_FALLBACK_LIBRARY_PATH) and system path include /opt/local/lib and work properly for other stuff like GSL. 

I also tried recompiling dbus, the KDE runtime and libs,  as well as Kile,  but to no use. 

Does anyone have further ideas (aside from giving up :)) or experienced similar problems? 

(Relevant?) System info: MacOS X 10.6.4 (and 10.6.5 after update today - no change),  Qt 4.7.1 (MacPorts)
