loss of pdflatex

texlive-bin sounded like a likely port to contain bin/pdflatex. I 
recently re-installed it. I see that pdftex is indeed in /opt/local/bin 
but no links.
In addition, when I run it, I get

So something still must have gone wrong during the install.
