New User Q: Error: db46 requires the Java for Mac OS X development headers.

Hello All

Getting Error: db46 requires the Java for Mac OS X development headers
while trying to install getmail. Have Xcode Installed from Snow
Leopard DVD.

https://connect.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MemberSite.woa/wa/getSoftware?bundleID=20719
seems to require annual developer's subscription. I am not a developer
and don't need anything more than the dependencies required by
macports for programs like getmail etc.

Do I have any choice, other than paying developer subscription?
because I am determined not to pay that!
