Octave .m files opening in Xcode

I just installed Octave, Gnuplot and Aquaerm using Macports. I installed all
three so that I could see the plots of my Ocave scripts.   However,  now
when run my Ocatave .m scripts I get the Xcode application and not the text
editor that I was getting prior to installing the ports andXcode.  My Octave
scripts are not running.  It seems like Xcode is intercepting all my Octave
programs.  Is this a bug or do I need to change my set up (Xcode then I
can't use Macports) to run the octave scripts?  Help.
