port mpkg not packaging dependencies

Hi all,

I have freshly installed the current MacPorts on a new OS X Lion 
installation and run "port mpkg nagios-plugins".

It runs fine, but when I install the resulting (m)pkgs on another Lion 
instance then all Nagios checks fail because of missing libraries 
(libintlX, libiconvX, ...). According to documentation mpkg also 
packages dependencies.

Am I overlooking something here? Is there some undokumented parameter to 
"port mpkg"?

Any hint or help is appreciated.
