Sounds like an ideal application of MacPorts to encapsulate the pain and make it easier for the end user.

We certainly have qt4-mac and mysql5 and perl5.12 and they're pretty frequently-used ports so we're pretty sure they work ok. Perl module ports are easy to create using the cpan2port script.

I'd like to contribute to a better all-Mac MythTV experience but I would certainly need a bunch of help and support to get a functioning MacPorts port file. Anybody else interested?

If you need help converting your perl build scripts to portfiles let us know (on the macports-dev mailing list). If need be, you can even make the portfile as simple as calling your perl build script. First you probably need to answer how many ports there will be. If mythtv is a system that has several components that can be used independently or optionally, making several separate ports (or one port with several subports) would probably be best.
