Thanks again, Ryan, for your prompt action.

The workaround "sudo port upgrade dbus +no_startupitem" installed dbus OK.

The rest of my "sudo port upgrade outdated" is now in progress,
using OS X 10.7.3 Lion, Xcode 4.2.1 and Macports 2.0.4.
