unable to upgrade/build texlive-bin

clang can in some cases use a lot more RAM than gcc did. Try updating to Xcode 4.6.1 if you haven't already. Also ensure your command line tools are up to date by open Xcode, visiting its Preferences window, and going to its Downloads section.
