The problem is that the Gimp requires the absolute latest
freedesktop.orgEWMH spec under X11, and very few window managers are
fully up to date with
all the new stuff that has moved a bunch of stuff the application used to
do (in particular, the popup menu behavior originally mentioned) into the
window manager. None of this applies to native OS X; you do what Core
Graphics wants, period.
It's rather antisocial of the Gimp to not at least query the appropriate
EWMH property (_NET_SUPPORTED) and warn / error (and preferably implement a
sane fallback) if the window manager doesn't implement the stuff it wants,
though.
