Can't "uninstall perl"

I am trying to uninstall perl from MacPorts.  I want to run a vanilla Perl
installation (i.e. the default Apple one).  I get the following output:

Preparing Uninstall...
which perl
Uninstall Began...
Uninstall Failed...
Reason: ErrorMissingBundle

If it's a bad idea to uninstall perl, please explain.
