How apply Kitware patch to VTK5 Port (Mavericks)

Ticket #40901 confirm VTK5 port doesn't compile under Maverisck.  It 
also mentions patch from kitware that can be applied to the VTK source 
to resolve the issue.

How can I apply the patch from kitware (mention in problem ticket 
#40901) to the Macport VTK5 source?
