Thank you for your help!

I installed tk with the +x11 variant and again ran scribus from terminal. I got farther than before. The Font Sample script now appears to run, although the terminal reports that Module ImageTk is not found. Note that I do have XQuartz installed.

The Calendar Wizard still did not draw a dialog box. Eventually, the script stopped and presented an information box with a request to report the following to the Scribus bug list:
