http://trac.macports.org/ticket/32651 and the specific error indicates that
it's using functionality that was deprecated and removed from gtk2 some
time ago.

I note that there is also a ticket containing a new version (indeed,
several new versions and out of date again, if I read it correctly) of
xfce4 (#31203). Apparently we're missing a port maintainer?
