I understand that the next release of MacPorts
will check for a correct installation of
(1)XCode, (2)it's Command Line Tools and (3)that
it's license has been accepted, right? This will
be _huge_ step forward--folks now expect instant
gratification. Download an installer .dmg and
BAM--done. Our 'extra steps', seem to trip up at
least half our new users.
A specific problem with
http://www.macports.org/install.php is that we
give generic guidance for installing XCode and
the Command Line Tools while the process is
rather different for specific versions. Just as
we have different .pkg installers for Mavericks,
Mountain Lion and Lion, we should have specific
corresponding instructions for the remaining
steps (with screen shots).
