After a clean install of Mavericks, I installed xcode 6.1, the command line tools for 6.1 and MacPorts-2.3.3-10.9-Mavericks.pkg. But when try 'port search',

port search emacs
Warning: Can't open index file for source: rsync://rsync.macports.org/release/tarballs/ports.tar
Error: search for name emacs failed: No index(es) found! Have you synced your port definitions? Try running 'port selfupdate'.

and then,

localhost:~ marbre$ sudo port -v selfupdate
Password:

rsync error: error in socket IO (code 10) at /SourceCache/rsync/rsync-42/rsync/clientserver.c(105) [receiver=2.6.9]
