The software has since moved to GTK3 and is now at 5.0.1 (4.6.3 seems to be the last version before 5.x and the last to use GTK2). The port doesn’t seem to have a maintainer, so this is a more general question: are there any plans to “upgrade” it to 5.x? I would try to do it, but I don’t think I have the required skill set…

There is an open ticket to update it to version 5 [1]. It hasn’t been updated because there is no maintainer to give it the go ahead. Given the open question of whether or not to keep version 4 around and the mention of segfaults in version 5, it is not really clear what to do. Having someone who uses and knows the software to step up and make decisions about the port and communicate with upstream as needed will make things happen much faster. They also need to be able to submit tested Portfile patches. It’s not really that hard [2]. I don’t know Tcl (the language used in portfiles and Macports) and I update ports all the time, albeit less frequently these days due to lack of available time.
