It would probably be a useful variant on the port (and if I were the maintainer, it would probably be the default - if only so that people could get a binary archive).

> MacPorts doesn't specifically request haswell optimizations. Rather, gmp is special in that its build system tries to get the best performance for a particular system. You'll have to consult the gmp documentation to see if there's a way to tell it not to do that.
