Problem w/ MySQL57 install

Just to be clear:  I run

     ps -ax | grep mysql

and get only

     751 ttys016    0:00.01 grep mysql

which appears to me to indicate that mysql is NOT running.  Correct?

Checked those, renamed.  still no joy.
