I got the same error.
I did :

mkdir -p /opt/local/var/macports/sources/null/opt/local/var/macports/sources/github.com/macports/macports-ports <http://github.com/macports/macports-ports>

ln -s /opt/local/var/macports/sources/github.com/macports/macports-ports/Portindex <http://github.com/macports/macports-ports/Portindex> \
/opt/local/var/macports/sources/null/opt/local/var/macports/sources/github.com/macports/macports-ports/Portindex

and it works.

Not sure how to fix as I see no configuration file.
