Macports Gnucash needs different settings locations?

I’m attempting to follow the directions at https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/GTK3 <https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/GTK3> and https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Configuration_Locations#GNC_CONFIG_HOME <https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Configuration_Locations#GNC_CONFIG_HOME> in order to get the font size in the register something larger than microscopic to no avail.  Is the Macports method of install Gnucash rendering the paths mentioned there incorrect? Has anyone succeeded in changing the font size in Gnucash 3+ in a Macports installation?
