protobuf-cpp and protobuf3-cpp again

This occurred just now:

sudo port upgrade outdated
--->  Computing dependencies for protobuf3-cpp
Error: Can't install protobuf3-cpp because conflicting ports are active: protobuf-cpp
Error: Problem while installing protobuf3-

This is listed in several Ticket discussions from earlier this year but it's not obvious to me what to do to fix it

Advice appreciated.
