Issue with mysql57

I installed mysql57-server. I can access it via the command line, but apache returns:

Failed to connect to your database server. The server reports the following message: SQLSTATE[HY000] [2002] Connection refused.

I’m running php72, and have php72-mysql @7.2.16_0+mysqlnd installed.

ps -ax|grep mysql 
 returns
86738 ??         0:09.59 /opt/local/lib/mysql55/bin/mysqld
96068 ??         0:00.58 /opt/local/lib/mysql57/bin/mysqld
