gimp2: Unable to read initialization file script-fu.init

For years now, whenever I try to run gimp, I see this error on pretty much every system, if I recall correctly, but certainly just now again on 10.7.5:

Unable to read initialization file script-fu.init

I have tried changing permissions to that file

/opt/local/share/gimp/2.0/scripts/script-fu.init

and to that directory

/opt/local/share/gimp/2.0/scripts/

but the error persists.

Anyone know why / how to fix / does it matter?
