Compiling a port statically

Of course, we’re not talking about linking the system libraries statically.  First of all, you can’t link libSystem statically. Secondly if they are gone, we’d done.

We’re talking about linking macports more ephemeral libraries statically, so the binary for bash or gmake or whatever doesn’t break if there is a macports update or misadventure.

Your mileage may vary, I highly recommend you don’t do this, you should buy a new Apple every year (my stock portfolio will love you for that), you should never swim after eating, etc.

BUT — wink - you should at least read about upgrading your bash to a new static bash if you are on less than 10.10 IMHO. Up to you.
