Macports user on login screen after migration from old Mac to new Mac

In a message posted already in this list’s archives but not yet appearing in the batched emails I receive from the list, Johsua Root writes:
“ … the 'macports’ user… should be as unprivileged as possible, and thus not a member of any groups other than its own.
"TBH, the easiest fix is probably to delete the 'macports' user and group, and let them be recreated by the installer during step 2 of the Migration process."
How does one, in fact, delete the ‘macports’ user and group before letting them be recreated by the installer during Step 2 of the MacPorts migration process?
(I note that no user ‘macports’ shows in System Preferences > Users & Groups even though user ‘macports’ appears on the macOS login screen.)
