Best (?) way to start the emacs server vi Launch?

Hi;

  I have an old emacs launch set up for an emacs that I now longer
have (I'm using emacs from mac ports now).

  Currently I do not have an emacs server running and I'd rather not
start one manually.

  I did "port notes emacs" and nothing was returned.
