Python and python3

I’m relatively new to MacPorts, and I notice that the pythonX packages create a python but not python3 link. Is there a reason for that? Both the system python and other package managers use python3, and that’s a hard habit to switch after so many years, and I don’t want to accidentally use the wrong (in this case, system) python.
