On the off-chance that this is a known problem with a known fix...

MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010), running High Sierra 10.13.6

Karks it around here (building zlib):

    :info:build fatal error: error in backend: Cannot select: intrinsic %llvm.x86.sha1rnds4
    :info:build clang: error: clang frontend command failed with exit code 70 (use -v to see invocation)

I see no point in submitting a bug report to Apple as this is an obsolete 
system...

The main.log is attached.
