Sequoia 15.0 - /private/var/root/.macports/history: No such file or directory

No idea why but after new install of MacPorts on Sequoia 15.0 (running on a UTM VM M2 mac mini) it seems that it did not create the directories /private/var/root/.macports/history so today's port selfupdate failed. 

	> selfupdate
Error: process_command_files failed: fopen(/private/var/root/.macports/history): No such file or directory

However the previous days install of a long list of ports did not produce this problem. 
Manually adding the directories fixed things.
