Port install subport in repository

I have a copy of the macports github repository on my computer.

If you go to the directory of one of the ports, than you can ussie the command:
sudo port install
(i.e., without giving a port name), and it installs the version of the port that is in that directory. This also applies to copies in other directories.

My question: is there a similar command to install a subport from such a directory. I haven't been able to find any information about this. Mentioning the name of the subport of course installs it from the standard ports tree.
