You should almost never force port activation so let's drop the -f flag. 

Can you try again with debug mode -- the -d flag? Maybe that will tell us more. 

I recall two or three users reporting difficulties years ago that ended up being caused by incorrect permissions on /tmp or /private/tmp so you might check those.
