That might be better. Having it in /usr/local will not cause problems, except if we were to ever advise the user to move /usr/local aside.

Paths inside a home directory have been problematic ever since the privilege dropping branch from GSoC ’08 was merged in, because the macports user cannot look inside your home directory.
